Womens Self Defence and Anti-Bullying training released

| Gaven Wicks Managing Director

Strike Training and Consulting, in its effort to maintain currency and improvement in training has introduced two further training programs. Our development team over the last 6-12 months has painstakingly researched and written these programs to deal with violence against women and bullying of school aged children.   In our development, we have recognised many current programs are not dealing with these issues effectively.   In women’s self-defence there is a lot of focus on learning how to punch, physical interaction with an assailant with a major pointer towards martial arts. These are fine systems but they take a long...

Terrorists on the move: Vigilance is our defence

| Gaven Wicks Managing Director

In recent weeks we have seen terror related incidents in Manchester, London, two in Melbourne and another in Paris this morning. The frequency is not unexpected given the war in Syria for ISIL is failing badly or has failed, depends who you listen too! This has now pushed these trained operatives into the civilian world where they can operate or influence the commencement of terrorist attacks directly or indirectly.   Regardless of your opinions on what is happening here, the fact is we are under attack and have been for some time. Many individuals, particularly Australians like to think this...

Manchester Bombing 22nd May 2017

| Gaven Wicks Managing Director

Unfortunately, today there has been another bomb blast at a place of mass gathering. If what has been indicated in the press is true, a suicide bomber carrying a backpack has detonated the bomb causing at least 19 deaths. If this is the case, security at an event has dropped the ball again. Time and time again we see a lack of vigilance and planning resulting in chaos and death from those who we perceive are caring for the safety of the public.   Questions need to be asked: Who made the decision that backpacks are allowed into a concert?...

Bastille Day: Altered Mass Gathering Attack

| Gaven Wicks Managing Director

In Nice today the French suffered another mass gathering attack during its Bastille Day celebrations. But this was of a different kind, not with guns and bombs but using a heavy goods vehicle to kill 73 people and injure 100 more. Reports have indicated the truck ploughed through the crowd gathered on the main road along the shoreline in the town. It has been labelled a terrorist attack by French officials at this time. http://www.smh.com.au/world/nice-france-dozens-killed-as-truck-drives-into-bastille-day-crowd-20160714-gq675f.html - This attack displays the adaptive nature of the terrorist groups to use other means than firearms and explosives. Perhaps security authorities have tunnel vision...

Terrorism: Security Guards Trained

| Gaven Wicks Managing Director

In the period January to June 2016 records indicate there have been at least 97 recognised terrorist attacks in the world. These have been of varying types, suicide bomber, shootings, detonated bombs etc. ISIS or persons indicating affiliation to this group are responsible for a large number of these attacks. These actions impact security all over the world regardless of whether there is a direct exposure to the incident itself. This impacts security risk and operations through the threat it poses. In response it requires an upgrading of security operatives to meet the challenge. Hence Strike Training has instituted its...

Perth Mosque Fire Bomb: What’s happening?

| Gaven Wicks Managing Director

The vehicle fire bomb occurring outstanding a Mosque in Thornlie, Perth Tuesday evening is a significant change to the willingness of protagonists to resort to directed violent action. This is unusual behaviour by these persons in the Perth community. In the past there has been an underlying dislike by these groups (anti-Islamist) and some verbal protesting but this act shows a dangerous elevation to using explosives. This is a significant incident and should not be underplayed. On current reports it was quite easy for these persons to commit this act with little or no security to deter them. That being...

Rio Attacks on Athletes

| Gaven Wicks Managing Director

The Australian Olympic Committee has just decided to take the unprecedented action of employing a private security firm for the olympics to assist with securing the team members. Good thinking Chief de Mission but seriously 6 years ago when Rio was put down as the host city surely someone in the committee would have thought this is a dangerous place with a bad reputation for violent crime ie. the main hospital for olympic attendees hosted a gunfight 3 days ago. So perhaps a security risk review would have been apt at this point. In my calculations it would have registered...
